Pixie Queen is a smooth worker placement game in which a pixie queen rules over her subordinates like a true tyrant. Legend has it that pixies are small, mischievous flying creatures often seen in the Cornwall and Devon region of the United Kingdom. Besides theft, intimidation and torture, they are considered a great nuisance to the human inhabitants of the region. According to the game, they are forced to do this by their pixie queen...
The player with the fewest points wins since the only points that can be gained (or avoided) during the game are penalty points. Reward points are only awarded at the end of the game, and you can receive rewards by charming the Queen with a golden ring, making additional offerings during the game, or promoting your pixies as the Queen's loyal servants. Getting each reward requires completely different gameplay tactics.
In summary, the game consists of a maximum of seven rounds with five phases each:
Steal food (honey, apples, bread) from Truro, the nearest human village.
Perform actions with your four action discs to maximize your profits and earn more goods. You have the choice between no less than 21 different actions. For most actions, two action discs are required unless you can enlist the help of a pixie.
Simultaneously with all other players, offer gold, silver or food to the Queen. She only accepts the food she wants in this round.
Receive possible rewards: Promote pixies to become a loyal servant or gain a better bargaining position to obtain gold or golden rings.
Penalty points are awarded to pixies who have not performed well enough according to the Queen.
