Night Soil is a very mature game about sanitation in Tudor London. Clean the streets to earn a living under cover of darkness! In this game, players run competing waste-collection businesses. During the day, neutral workers can be sent into London to advertise, earn the favour of local businesses, or improve their company’s assets. However, the crowd of workers tends to worsen the waste problem. At night, worker cards are used to carefully move waste cubes through London’s narrow streets in order to generate profits and recruit workers. Each player starts with a starter deck and can buy other unique cards during the day phase, creating a small personal engine. Night Soil innovatively combines several mechanics: victory points serve as the game’s currency, workers are neutral and can be recruited during the night phase, a guild system adds strategic depth, and moving waste cubes follows a shared movement mechanic in which each move brings you closer to your objective while potentially benefiting your opponent. All of this is contained within a streamlined rule system, and the game is brought to life by dozens of illustrations from artist Jesse Gillepsie. ** includes solo mode
