The suns of Malvios are dying. Across the planet, survivors are scrambling to gather any hope for the future they can find in the fading light. Pooling their resources, experts from all walks of life come together to find the best way forward — and the team they will need to follow it. In Converge, players compete to assemble the best team to meet the objectives at hand, even though those objectives and teams may change from game to game. The same goes for control of the powerful artifact that grants an advantage to whoever possesses it. Each round, players take turns playing a single card from their hand. Each card has two parts: a character with a set of skills, a rank, and a special ability; and an objective, each with a star value for meeting its conditions. These objectives apply to both players while the card is in the central area, with completed objectives remaining in play. Cards can be discarded for their special ability, played onto the player's team to meet objectives using their colour and value, or played as a new shared objective. At the end of the round, players count their current star value. The player with the most stars takes control of the artifact. If they already controlled the artifact, they win the game! If neither player can win once all the cards have been played, the player who holds the artifact wins the game. Converge: Catalysts of Change features the wise Archivists, ingenious Mechanics, and experimental Alchemists. Archivists use their vast library to Educate others, thereby turning an objective into a team member. Mechanics can Salvage almost anything, allowing them to turn a discarded card into an objective. Alchemists seek to push the boundaries of science, which often results in team members being Burned and discarded.
