In Arkwright, players manage up to four factories in England in the late 18th century. Your goal is to have the most valuable block of treasury stock. So, you need to increase your stock value and buy shares from the bank.

To run factories, you need workers. When hiring workers, demand is automatically created. But of course you want to replace your expensive workers (2-5 salary) with machines (1). To have more production from your factories, you can employ new workers or upgrade your factory to the next technical level.

You set the price of your goods during an action round. To improve your chances of selling goods, you upgrade your factories to higher levels, increase quality, and promote sales. The higher these factors, the better your chances of success - the higher the price, the lower it is.

Arkwright allows you to act in different ways. Run the four factories with the most production possible, focus on only two factories and improve them more than the others can; use shipping to the colony or focus on the domestic market. Either way, you have to react to opponents and their Strategy. Enter markets with a supply gap or abandon your business where other players start to crowd you out. Buy stocks when they are cheap and increase in value, or make money first and buy stocks later.

To familiarize yourself with the mechanics of the market, you can start with a 120-minute version "Spinning Jenny", but for those who like Strategy Complete in economic-themed games, the 240-minute "Waterframe" rules come with more options for upgrading your factory and using ships.
