DESCRIPTION

France '40 contains two separate games: Sickle Cut and Dynamo. The two games use the same rules and share many piece of play, but everyone has a separate card in full size.

Sickle Cut: the Guderian road to the Channel

This game covers the crucial week of May 1940 when the German army broke the French line on the Meuse and rushed to the sea in Abbeville. The game begins on May 13, the third day of Case Yellow. Six Panzers divisions crossed the Ardennes and are now on the Meuse. The French and the British crossed Belgium at full speed to reach the dyle line and cover the breach of Gembloux. The stage is set. Can Germans cross the Meuse in the face of strong opposition? And, if they succeed, will they be able to get out of the bridgeheads and advance on the map while they are threatened by the allied reinforcements which flock from the north and the South?

Dynamo: retirement to victory

This game covers British withdrawal on Dunkirk and evacuation. The game begins on May 24, the day the British decide that the B.E.F. It is real in danger of being cut off from its refueling base and that the best option is to go to the coast in Dunkirk. However, many German panzers divisions are closer to Dunkirk than the British. Will the British reach the coast before the Germans? Will they be able to hold the perimeter of Dunkirk for eight days while they evacuate?

The rules of the two games focus on shielding, air support and morale. Special rules include: allied heavy tanks, de Gaulle, Rommel, Hitler's stop order and command paralysis French. Note that the two cards can be connected to each other so that players can study the whole period from May 13 to June 3, but there is no combined game scenario.

2nd edition

France '40 2nd Edition is a major update of the original game. The rules for extensive movements, the fight, the advance after the fight, the decisive fight and the determined defense have been updated in order to be more in line with recent games in the 19xx series (such as Stalingrad '42 and Salerno '43). A new scenario has been included, designed by Mark Merritt, who combines the two cards.

In addition, many new units have been added and some old units have been modified to provide a more precise battle order for the sickle and dynamo. Some minor cities, some roads and a fortified hexagon were added to the Dynamo card.

Above all, the two scenarios were subjected again to the test cycle to make sure they are better balanced than during the first edition.

This game has long been one of my favorites because of the exciting situation and the short playing time. I am really satisfied with this 2nd edition and enthusiastic by the new features it has.
