In 1697, the Sun King, Louis XIV, emerged from a decade of war with his still unsatisfied continental ambitions. Meanwhile, King Guillaume III of England was more comfortably seated on his new throne than he had never been before. With the imminence of the Spanish succession crisis, no one had illusions about the tranquility of the new century. But neither France nor England could have anticipated the tumult of the years to come: a second one hundred years, during which these two fierce opponents would compete fiercely and proudly in all areas of human performance. On the battlefields of India in Canada via the Caribbean Sea, their armies and fleets would clash; In the salons of Paris and the London cafes would be born the politics and the economy of the modern world; And finally a revolution would shake the foundations of society: a revolution that could have ended not in blood and terror but by the triumph of democracy and freedom, which could have transformed the world beyond all imagination .

Imperial Struggle is a game with two players illustrating the rivalry between France and Great Britain in the 18th century. He began in 1697, when the two kingdoms carefully wait for the King of Spain to appoint an heir, then ended in 1789, when a new order brought down the Bastille. The game does not only concern war: France and Great Britain must establish the foundations of colonial wealth, deal with the other nations of Europe and compete for glory throughout the extent of the spectrum of human activity .

Imperial Struggle covers almost a hundred years of history and four major wars. However, it’s a quick and not very complex game. It aims to honor its spiritual ancestor, Twilight Struggle, going further in the direction of simple rules and playable systems, while retaining a scale and a planetary historical scan in a single evening. During the Tours de Paix, the players develop their economic interests, their alliances and take advantage of the historical events represented by the event cards. They must choose their investments judiciously, but also pay attention to their opponent cannot benefit from it. During the war towers, each theater can bring in major awards in the form of a conquest and prestige ... but territorial gains can disappear at the negotiating table. At the end of the century, will the British govern an empire on which the sun never sets? Or will France open the way to the world, such as the superpower of the dreams of the Sun King or the Republic of Lafayette?
