DESCRIPTION

In 1985, Victory Games published Pacific War. Critics of the time (for example, Fred Hellferich in his review Fire and Movement) estimated that this conception established the standard for an operational / strategic simulation of this world conflict. Over the past 35 years, the reputation of this game has increased, with several stranded efforts to put it back on paper. Now that this design has finally returned home (in GMT Games), I'm here to tell you that this is the end of this publishing trip.

Pacific War is a strategic wargame that takes you from the attack by Pearl Harbor in the climatic summer of 1945 ... from Australia to China ... from Burma to Hawaii ... from the defense of the ' Wake island in the invasion of Guadalcanal culminating in desperate battles to defend the Japanese islands.

For the first time in a Pacific Theater game, size, subtlety and ease of play have gathered in a sharp action and historical precision game.

Players can familiarize themselves with Pacific war systems in layers in solitary engagement scenarios, then make their way through battle, campaign and strategic scenarios with two more and more panoramic players. As they learn the game's maneuver and fighting systems, they will then superimpose more advanced systems for strategic bombing, underwater attacks on the merchant navy, research and detection, Amphibious assaults and extensive operations motivated by their command decisions.

The Pacific War is a source of unlimited challenge and excitation for anyone has always been fascinated by the fury and the immensity of the Pacific War.

Pacific War is also a time in time at the Halcyon era of the monster game. However, despite what you may have heard, Pacific War is not a set of monsters, but rather an operational air-terre-terre game system that allows you to fight all battles and countryside of the Pacific of importance. The original game had come with 21 scenarios. This new edition will add at least half a dozen others. The game gains its reputation as a monster game because to fight all these campaigns, you need a large number of meters (more than 2000) which represent individual capital ships, divisions of cruisers, destroyers squadrons, Groups of aircraft and land units ranging from battalions to body divisions, all units that can be evaluated individually according to their historical performance.

The game card is an equal zone card (two mounted cards) which is the grandfather of the Empire du Soleil card. Each hexagon is 100 miles and covers the whole Pacific from Hawaii to India and Alaska in Australia. The game will also be delivered with a separate card focused on the Solomon islands where many interesting and balanced scenarios occur. What made Victory Games' Pacific War unique in 1985 remains true in the 2020 edition of GMT. The design integrates strategic / operational intelligence into a telescopic time mechanism that allows campaigns to progress in a logical asymmetrical flow, accompanied by a tense game. Pacific war is a deep historical simulation, so if not what you are looking for in a new purchase, please do not read further. So how is this level of simulation reached?

During each monthly round, you bid command points (logistics) to determine the initiative (offensive player), the high activating auction and then launching its forces to its objectives. Secretly, your opponent (reaction player) determines the level of operational intelligence and his potential for interception of the offensive. As the offensive develops, it is within reach of enemy air forces and submarines which tactically try to detect the attacking attack. The reaction player decides how to overcome the attack according to the intersection of tactical and operational intelligence coupled with available forces and logistics.

All this sequence takes place in a telescopic time scale (days at times) which allows naval units to accelerate in a transparent manner (from 12 to 30 knots), to search for the enemy, to launch air strikes, to fight the Aerial patrols to defend, culminating with attacks of torpedoes and bombers stuck on individual naval targets. Basically, Pacific War's game systems allow you to carry out detailed (sequential and simultaneous) actions) with naval surface naval actions (hydravions, shooting and torpedoles) integrated into large terrestrial offensives scale on the Asian continent (for example, Malaysia, Burma and China) and of course amphibious invasions (for example, Java, Guadalcanal and Leyte). If you are looking for a detailed and interactive operational simulation of war in the Pacific, this game is for you!
