North Star Games has been working on a complete overhaul of the Evolution system in recent years.

Here are some of the objectives:

Make all extensions compatible
Players can add as many (or as few) expansions as they want.
Easier to set up and take down.
Smaller extensions, but more numerous.
Making the base game a smoother and more welcoming experience for new players
Less punitive for players who are targeted.
Reduce the snowball effect that occurs when a player is targeted or starts poorly.
Fewer traits, but more thematic and with more synergies.

The first point will solve two problems: 1) flight and climate are incompatible, and 2) moving from one expansion to the next is extremely cumbersome and easy to miss. With the new system, players will be able to create an epic experience by choosing a mix of their favorite expansions. It will also allow casual players to progress slowly by learning 1 small expansion at a time. Smaller expansions also mean we can release 1 or 2 each year.

The second point will create a better experience for players who are new to the gaming system, including high rollers, casual players, and families using nature as educational entertainment.

Theme & Gameplay
Players adapt their species in a dynamic ecosystem where food is scarce, predators lurk, and symbiotic relationships abound. Traits like claws and horns will protect your species from predators, while being opportunistic can open up creative ways to find food. Gather your friends and see who adapts best to the changing world around them.
