DESCRIPTION

Commands & Colors: Medieval is based on the Commands & Colors game system and is not too complex. The medieval game introduces many new game concepts to the Commands & Colors system, which add historical depth and flavor. Here are some of the new concepts:

  • Higher armor and status during fighting
  • Increase in 4 -block cavalry units
  • Heavy infantry combat dice are reduced by 5 dice to 4
  • Light arc cavalry units can use Parthian shot when they escape

Nevertheless, certain command & colors game mechanisms remain familiar to players from other system games, such as the Medieval Command card game which leads to movements while creating a "war fog" and the combat dice that will resolve the fight quickly and effectively. The stylized battlefield scenario cards highlight the important characteristics of the field and underline the historic deployment of large -scale forces with the game system. The scale of the game is flexible and varies from one battle to another. For some scenarios, a unit can represent a chiliachy of soldiers, while in other scenarios, a unit can represent only a few courageous warriors. The tactics of battlefield, however, that you will have to execute to win the victory conforms remarkably well to the strengths and limits of the different types of medieval units, their weapons, the field and history.

The medieval battles presented in the scenario book are focused on the historical clashes between the Byzantine Empire and the Sassanid Persians (530 to 627 AD) with a slight detour to fight the Moors and their rebel allies (645 - 648 AD) . The Byzantine Empire during this period of medieval history was a constant transition and reorganization. His army tended to imitate his east opponents by deploying an increasing number of armored cavalry training (cataphracts) and more missile troops. However, it is the way the Byzantines adapted their fighting tactics compared to the enemy they faced which is perhaps the main reason for the longevity of their empire.

Although the Byzantine army has fought on other borders, against a multitude of opponents, Visigoths, Vandals, Ostrogoths, Francs, Alemanni, these conflicts are beyond the scope and space of this single package. Additional extension modules for these battles will be available soon.
