DESCRIPTION

1469 - The Iberian Peninsula has been divided into many caliphate and kingdoms in the past 700 years. The war, which is part of the desperate competition between the Christian and Muslim religions, often called the Reconquista, was the only constant. Now 18 years old, Isabelle de Castille has already been offered in matrimonial alliances in Portugal and France. Against the will of her brother, King Henri IV, she refused the two agreements and fled to marry her original fiancé, Ferdinand II of Aragon. Five years later, her brother died and Isabelle was appointed Queen of Castille. But can this fragile alliance between Castile and Aragon hope to prosper in the face of threats from all sides?

Tanto Monta: The Rise of Ferdinand and Isabella covers the period from 1470 to 1516, the peak of the age of discoveries and the years immediately leading to the period covered by here I stand: Wars of the Reformation, 1517-1555. The game opens on the disputed ascent of Isabelle at the throne of Castile, a position disputed by a faction supported by the Portuguese supporting Joanna La Beltraneja. Ferdinand's possessions are also threatened by the current civil war in Aragon against the forces of the Principality of Catalonia, a faction often supported by France. How can these young Catholic kings face these two crises while continuing their programs to unite their two kingdoms in a single Spanish kingdom, to subjugate the Canary Islands and to finish the reconquest of Granada

Faced with the Spanish player, three other emerging powers oppose. Portugal has plunged into the exploration of West Africa under the direction of Prince Henri the navigator. Can they push further along the African coasts and establish a direct trade with the spice merchants of India? Meanwhile, the French, initially led by Louis XI the prudent, try to get out of the Hundred Years War against England and to consolidate the power of the crown on the nobles of this country. Once ready to push south, the French nation will compete with Spain for land ranging from Navarre to the west to the Cities-States of Italy to the East. And Muslim forces are always obstacles to all these ambitions. The Nasride kingdom of Granada will fiercely defend against new forays against its fortresses in the highlands. The kingdom of Fez in North Africa is opposed to Portuguese attempts to deny their monopoly on the spice trade. And other Muslim forces of the Ottoman Empire and the Berber lands along the North African coast will not fail to help in the years to come.

And this is how the decor is planted so that these four powers compete on the battlefield, at the diplomatic tables and on the oceans of the world. Can one of these powers unite his homeland and prepare the field for a real world empire?

The game: in Tanto Monta: the ascent of Ferdinand and Isabelle, each of the four players governs a major power and another secondary power as follows:

Spain (Kingdom of Castile; Kingdom of Aragon)

  • Muslim (Nasride kingdom of Granada; Powers of North Africa: Sultanats of Fez and Tremencén)
  • Portugal (Kingdom of Portugal; Beltranejos faction)
  • France (Kingdom of France; Principality of Catalonia).

This is a game with 4 players, no more no less.

Duration of the game: A part of Tanto Monta lasts up to 7 laps with a duration of approximately 45 minutes per turn. The winner is the first player to reach 45 PV with automatic victories and also of domination possible.

Map: The main map represents the Western Mediterranean region, including the Iberian Peninsula, the South and the Center of France, the Italian Peninsula and the Maghreb in North Africa. The Canary Islands are also included. An additional exploration card represents Africa, the Indian Ocean and the New World, places where exploration and colonization trips take place.

Basic flow: Keeping many here I stand and Virgin Queen game systems, the towers start with each player receiving a shared deck card hand to complete their home cards (which provide unique actions for each major and secondary power). Once diplomatic negotiations and spring preparations are completed, players play these cards as events or operations to carry out military, political or exploration actions in order to maximize their winning points. At the end of each tower, the armies winter, royal weddings take place and, unless there is a winner, the game is reset in the early round.

Minor powers: The Kingdom of Navarre and the Italian States of Genoa, Florence, Naples and the Papacy each play an important role in the diplomatic landscape of the game. Important independent cities and the Guanche population of the Canary Islands also have defensive military forces. Other political entities are indirectly represented in the game through events and foreign wars, notably England, Butinogne, Brittany, the Germanic and Roman Empires.

New features : Tanto Monta introduces several innovations in the game series. The terrestrial combat system is enriched by the addition of explicit siege artillery and cavalry units for all the major powers, which can try to overthrow the course of the battle by carrying out a dedicated cavalry load. The spring phase is also extended to include the game of flagship events, the possibility of using a powerful hand to get bonus PVs and sneak in an additional event card game before the Tour is completely started . Finally, improved exploration cards systems depict the arrival of Vasco Da Gama in India and Christopher Columbus in America and include explicit jets to try to navigate the terra incognita.
