The success of Essen Game Fair 2021 is now available at Rio Grande Games!
In 1347, merchant galleys of the Crimean Peninsula arrived in Sicily and accosted at the old port of Messina. The galleys had rats. The rats had fleas. And the chips wore a scourge that would become known as the black plague. Over the next four years, in European cities, half of the population would die.
In Messina 1374, the latest game of the designer of Underwater Cities and Praga Caput Rengi, the players play the role of noble families having land properties in the countryside around Messina. They try to save people from the plague by relocating them in their fields. While the plague in Messina worsens, players will build small independent communities while trying to control the plague by fire. In the last laps of the game, the plague begins to fade and the players return the saved citizens to repopulate the resilient city of Messina.
